Eins, zwei, viele
The
project ‘Eins, zwei, viele’
first started in 2021 with collaborative experiments between
Lionstone and Siegel and then further on developed into a
conceptual art project that features several different
mediums. Early on, the artists noticed reoccurring, common
themes within their art practices. These themes of common
ground ultimately formed the starting point of the
collaboration of the artist duo Ä
& Ö.
The works of the series ‘Eins, zwei, viele’ focus on the complex relationship between the inner self and the outside world, using the artist's body as a starting point for this investigation. Both Lionstone and Siegel have been experiencing alienation from their own body and their environment. The two artists are connected in the shared feeling of solitude and the perception of being an outcast and a stranger to themselves and the world. They are exploring the boundaries of their individual escapism and meet in a dialogue of visual works. This visual dialogue of the two artists becomes like a game between two players. Within this game they are always asking: Are we ultimately alone, or can we be connected in our solitude? ‘Eins, zwei, viele’ which can be translated as ‘One, two, many’ wonders if individuals in society can be united in the feeling of strangeness, loneliness and separation, which each of us might experience at times.
Lionstone and Siegel photograph themselves and each other, and use techniques such as collages, digital distortion and the construction of 3-dimensional objects to further explore the relationship between the self and its surroundings. Contradictory, playful and eclectic, the artist duo works on a continuous dialogue that questions the boundaries of the body, the self and the perception of the world.
