Dora Lionstone
Dora Lionstone (*1986, Potsdam)
is a visual artist and photographer who graduated from the
Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts in
Photography and has previously worked as a Software Engineer
in Germany with a Master’s Degree in Media Informatics. Her
work has been exhibited at FOAM and Stedelijk Museum
Amsterdam, among several other exhibitions across Europe.
She has been selected as FRESH EYES European Talent in 2021
and received the Artist Start grant from the Mondriaan Fund
for 2022. She is currently based in Amsterdam, NL.
Her work is driven by a fascination for ambiguity, logic and the surreal. She challenges the clear-cut perception of reality with multiple coexisting and often contradicting perspectives, while searching for deeper layers beyond the surface. Influenced by her background in software engineering, Lionstone sees the image as a system that is waiting to be cracked, taken apart and reassembled differently. This continuous (re-)construction of reality is explored by the artist’s use of collages and other image transformations. Her process involves a combination of various techniques such as analog photography, digital manipulation and animation next to the creation of objects, drawings and text. By using multiple methods and points of view, she aims to extend the boundaries of the rigid binary world, merging fact and fiction, science and art.

Katharina Siegel
Katharina Siegel
(*1993 in Frankfurt am Main) is a Visual Artist who mainly
focuses on the medium of photography. She currently lives
and works in Amsterdam (NL). In 2021 she graduated from the
photography department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and
has a pre-education in Sociology and Graphic Design. Her
works have been exhibited in Tokyo, Paris, Amsterdam and
Frankfurt am Main.
Themes such as perception, reality, human relationships and the inner world are central to her artistic ouvre. All of the artist’s work can be seen as an act of self-exploration and contemplation about life and the self. In previous works she explores the impact of neurological conditions such as migraine and synesthesia on her life. She expresses the experience with a vivid use of colours and distortions or uses collages within the images. Other projects include archival images that explore family ties and relationships. To hide and mask the protagonists within the works is a reoccurring theme. The face gets covered with objects, blurred or distorted. Her portraits barely show the face of the protagonists and conceal their identity. This act is an attempt to juxtapose the closeness and distance between human relationships.
